For the Beatles it was Hamburg, the venue that worked 7 nights a week with extended 6-7 hour sessions, & a town that many believe “made” the Beatles. You either had what it took or you quit, simple as that.
Fast forward some 50 years & for one of the east coasts best known and loved acts, it was Ibiza where Tommy Memphis worked for five northern hemisphere summers. He has performed at a resort seven nights a week where the audience has ranged from rowdy back packers to rich Europeans on holiday and everything in between. This has really made him dig deep to find something different to entertain audiences and keep them interested.
On his return to Australia Tommy has toured with “Oh What a Night” playing the biggest venues in Australia including “The Palms” at Melbourne Crown Casino. Tommy has also supported “The Platters” and “Gary Puckett and the Union Gap”. Tommy now has the experience to hold the biggest audience in the palm of his hand. He has been variously compared to ” a cross between Elvis and Monty Python” or “the Eveready Bunny on permanent fast forward”. He simply doesn’t stop.
Tommy sings a lot of Rock’n’Roll and Country music in his mammoth 3 hour plus sets but also throws in other genres as well. He has a genuine warmth that only comes from doing something he loves.
If you attend one of his shows – you will be all the better for it. You walk away feeling good about yourself – something that is his trademark.
